Ceanne reviews “The Red Tent”

The Red TentThe Red Tent by Anita Diamant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I heard a lot about this book–a lot of negative comments from those who were proponents of the bible, and raves from those who were more open-minded to the fact that this was a story. I am not a proponent of the bible and was not raised in any specific faith so did not come to this story with any preconceived notions about Dinah. I actually have no memory of ever hearing about Dinah’s story in my somewhat limited knowledge of the bible. This book was recommended to me as a “book of faith”, which I actually didn’t find it to be–although there was mention of beliefs of the era of the story, the story didn’t come across to me as a book of faith.

Anyways, this was a good book–not my favorite–but the writing was superb and the story flowed wonderfully. So much so that it was hard to put it down at night so I’d get proper sleep.

So often, in reading I find the ending anti-climatic and this one was, for me, as well. If possible, I’d actually have given this book 3.5 stars–which is still a pretty good score for me…
